The ever-popular Invisalign treatment is a great method of straightening your teeth and improving your smile and confidence. Invisalign works by applying a series of clear, retainer-like aligners in order to move your teeth into their ideal positions, giving you the results you were looking for, straighter teeth! Patients will swap their aligners approximately every two weeks.

The joy of Invisalign is they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want. They are also comfortable to wear with no metal brackets in your mouth.

    Patient case study

This is Invisalign® in action. See what our patients have to say about their Invisalign® treatment . . . and what their smiles have to show for it.

I became self-conscious over one of my teeth rotating and leaving a gap. After reading about possible treatments, I discussed the matter with Dr Shah. He discussed the options he would recommend, clearly explaining the pros and cons, and I decided on treatment with Invisalign®. I was—and remain—impressed with Dr Shah’s sense of personal pride in his work, ensuring that I got the best results out of my treatment throughout the process. I think the results are excellent, and I would recommend that if your smile is affecting your confidence, you should consider discussing possible options with Dr Shah.

    REMOTE VISITS, SMARTER SMILES

We love to see you in practice, but understand that regular visits aren’t always convenient.

Thanks to Dental Monitoring we at Parkfield Dental Practice can keep track of your Invisalign® treatment progress remotely. This clever orthodontic software pairs photos you take on your smartphone with your personalised Invisalign treatment plan. Once you’ve been fitted for your aligners, we’ll show you how to use the Dental Monitoring app and the ScanBox - a lightweight device that takes precise AI-powered scans anywhere and anytime.

Then the remote magic begins. Each week, submit a selfie of your smile via the app and your dentist will ensure your teeth are moving as they should be, giving you regular feedback, instructions and reminders.

Not only is Dental Monitoring convenient, it also offers more accurate monitoring, as the technology can assess movement more closely than is possible with the human eye alone. This closer supervision enables your dentist to check on progress and detect any issues early, with access to all the right information at their fingertips ahead of your regular appointments, optimising chair time.

And while there may be less practice visits, this remote technology actually means more contact with your dentist, as we’ll be in regular contact through the app. Get in touch with Parkfield Dental today for more information about going remote with your Invisalign® treatment.

    Frequently asked questions

    • How does Invisalign work?

During the course of treatment, you will be provided with a series of aligners. Each aligner will make slight adjustments to your tooth position. When the aligners are placed on your teeth, they cause the teeth to gradually move from their current position to improved position. Each set of aligners are worn for 2 weeks at a time, as the teeth are moved gradually into their new and improved position. To ensure your treatment progresses on schedule, the aligners should be worn for 22 hours each day and removed for eating and cleaning.

    • what makes invisalign different from traditional braces?

It’s a more comfortable and less intrusive way of straightening teeth. Unlike traditional metal braces with brackets and wires, Invisalign is very discreet and virtually invisible. This gives patients the confidence to smile and socialise as normal without feeling self-conscious. You can also take the aligners out for easy cleaning, brushing and flossing. The aligners shouldn’t be worn for eating, so there’s no need to avoid certain foods. Traditional braces also require constant visits to the dentist for tightening. In contrast, Invisalign works effectively to keep the right amount of pressure on the teeth without the need for tightening. This means you won’t have to visit your dentist quite so often.

    • how long will my invisalign treatment take overall?

The length of your Invisalign treatment entirely depends on the complexity of your unique alignment issues. There are a number of factors at play, including not just how complex your case is but also how often you actually wear your aligners, given the fact that they are removable. By consulting your orthodontist here at Parkfield Dental, you will be given a clearer picture of how long your treatment plan will take depending on your individual needs.

On average, the Invisalign treatment period for adults can take between 12 and 18 months. For teens and children, it can take longer – around the same time as a set of traditional braces. Despite this, our patients often begin seeing results in a matter of only weeks as the Invisalign begins to work its magic and realign your teeth – and because they are clear you will begin to enjoy your straighter smile very early into the process. Depending on the complexity of the misalignment, some treatments can even be completed in as little as six months.

    • What are invisalign's clear aligners actually made of?

What makes Invisalign aligners so special is the fact that they are nearly entirely invisible – but how exactly is this effect achieved? Well, it’s got a lot to do with the material used for the aligners. The Invisalign clear-aligner treatment is made of a flexible plastic – one that a specifically designed and patented thermoplastic material, known as SmartTrack. This material is created exclusively for use as part of the Invisalign treatment and is another way in which they differ from traditional treatment options.

    • Is Invisalign® right for me?

Invisalign is a fantastic treatment for both adults and teens who are hoping for a less invasive and almost entirely invisible way of straightening their teeth and improving their smile. It is a truly modern and cutting edge orthodontic treatment that allows us to enjoy the kinds of benefits that traditional braces and metal braces do not necessarily afford.

It is a unique treatment that benefits from the innovation and advancements of modern dentistry – something the dentistry team here at Parkfield Dental is entirely passionate about. If you want a method that fixes almost all common misalignment and teeth straightening issues while not getting in the way of your busy lifestyle, then Invisalign is likely to be an excellent choice for you.

If you are someone who wants to achieve your perfect smile with straighter teeth but you don’t like the overall look of metal braces, then Invisalign’s invisible braces will certainly be the more preferable choice for you.

    • can i remove my invisalign braces whenever i need to?

Invisalign braces are not a permanently fixed braces solution like many conventional braces. In fact, they are entirely removable aligners designed to offer you some flexibility while achieving the beautiful smile you dream of. While you need to wear your Invisalign aligners for around 20 to 22 hours a day for the very best results, there are reasons you may want to remove them during the day.

In fact, we recommend that you remove your Invisalign clear align system braces when you are eating or drinking, as well as taking them off in order to brush and floss your teeth. The flexibility of these removable aligners also means you can take them off for certain occasions such as a job interview, party, wedding, or anything else. It also means that if you are someone who enjoys playing sport, the aligners can be removed in order to participate.

    • Will my Invisalign® orthodontic treatment hurt?

The Invisalign treatment works just like any other braces treatment by moving your misaligned teeth into their new position by applying a gentle but constant pressure to your teeth. Generally speaking, your Invisalign aligners will not hurt very much throughout your treatment time. But some users do describe a temporary discomfort during the first few days of their treatment plan.

This is often described as a kind of discomfort, soreness or pressure and is absolutely nothing to worry about. In fact, experiencing this pressure in the first few days is entirely normal and is actually a good sign that your Invisalign clear aligners are working and beginning to transform your smile with straighter teeth.

Most patients are not particularly affected by this but if you do feel discomfort and you are worried, don’t hesitate to get in touch with your dentist here at Parkfield for some advice and guidance about your orthodontic treatment. The discomfort you feel should be gone within a few days and the intensity of the pain should never be anything above some general sensitivity and pressure. Before long, your mouth and teeth will become used to the pressure and you will be able to enjoy the rest of your Invisalign treatment time without discomfort.

If you are experiencing pain and discomfort within the first few days, you should be able to easily manage this pain with minor pain medication available over the counter.

    • can my invisalign aligners become stained?

One of the main appeals of the Invisalign clear align system is that the aligners themselves are almost entirely invisible, allowing you to go about your busy day to day with most people you speak to not even realising that you are wearing aligners at all. But this is also why you will want to avoid anything that might stain your aligners.

The clear plastic material of the aligners can become stained over time if you do not give them proper maintenance or if you are not careful about how you treat them. And if they become stained, they will become more visible inside your mouth, defeating the purpose!

We discourage smoking while you are undergoing your Invisalign orthodontic treatment plan. Nicotine can stain your aligners over time. Food and drink can also easily stain your Invisalign braces – which is one of the reasons that it is highly recommended that you remove your braces before eating and drinking. Then, it’s important that you brush after every meal before placing the Invisalign aligners back into your mouth in order to avoid staining.

    What Can Invisalign Treat?

    Crowded teeth

Crowded teeth is when your teeth don’t quite have enough room in your jaw to fit as they should with the right amount of space between each tooth. If you have crowded teeth, you’ll notice that your teeth overlap and can become twisted from side to side or even become pushed backwards or forwards in order to fit alongside your other teeth.

As well as being a cosmetic issue that many patients wish to fix, crowded teeth can harm your hygiene by making brushing and flossing more difficult than usual. This makes crowded teeth more difficult to keep healthy and means that they can actually become worse over time.

Fortunately, Invisalign clear aligners have been designed in order to help deal with crowded teeth. If you’re hoping for a permanent solution to your crowded teeth, then you’ve come to the right place. Here at Parkfield Dental, our team has experienced professionals with particular expertise in orthodontics including Invisalign, so don’t hesitate to get in touch and schedule a consultation today.

    Gap teeth

When you suffer from gap teeth, it means that the spacing between your teeth is wider than what is normally expected. This can be an issue whether you have wide gaps between all your teeth or only a few. The problem arises because it is much easier for food to get stuck high up between your teeth. This can lead to sore gums and, in some cases, problems with gum disease.

Here at Parkfield Dental, our orthodontics experts are experienced in delivering Invisalign for patients with gap teeth. If you’re looking for a solution for your problems with gap teeth, get in touch with us to find out more.

    Overbite

An overbite occurs when your top and bottom jaws are not properly aligned, leading to the teeth of your upper jaw extending further out over your bottom teeth, covering them. This can sometimes be hereditary but is also often caused by behaviours in childhood such as thumb-sucking or extended use of a bottle.

If you are worried that you have an overbite, we recommend getting in touch with the orthodontists here at Parkfield. An overbite could cause issues in the future, such as gum damage, jaw pain, sleep apnoea, tooth damage, and more.

    Underbite

You have an underbite if, when you close your jaw, your bottom teeth extend out beyond your upper teeth. This can sometimes be a complicated matter and is often caused by the entire bottom jaw being misaligned, rather than just the teeth. However, Invisalign has a proven track record of efficiently dealing with and correcting underbites.

It’s important to deal with an underbite because of the issues it may cause you. Underbites are known to cause difficulty in both speaking and eating, pain in the face and jaw, and eventual tooth and gum problems.

    Crossbite

Unlike an overbite or underbite, a crossbite occurs when only some of your upper teeth rest behind your lower teeth. It’s called a crossbite because your teeth alignment crosses over, which can cause you some severe dental problems later down the line. For example, people with a crossbite have been known to have chipped and worn down teeth and gums, with some even having problems with bone loss.

A crossbite can be quite a complicated dental matter to deal with, but fortunately Invisalign is capable of dealing with and correcting most cases of crossbites. For more information, a consultation with our experienced Invisalign experts will help you to find the right solution for you.

    Open bite

Very simply, an open bite is when you completely close your jaw but your top and bottom teeth do not fully connect. Open bites are particularly known for making it difficult to eat, chew and swallow – particularly for certain foods for which biting into something harder is necessary.

Sometimes, an orthodontic solution isn’t always appropriate to deal with an open bite. However, in cases where the open bite can be corrected with an aligner, Invisalign has become the go-to solution for the patients here at Parkfield Dental.

    Straighter teeth, in general

Now, this one might seem obvious – but yes! Invisalign is absolutely fantastic for adjusting slightly crooked teeth and turning your smile into a straighter and more even one! The truth is that very few of us are lucky to be born with perfect teeth – most of us would adjust something about our teeth, given the choice.

A small fix to your smile can make a huge amount of difference, giving you the extra confidence that you’re looking for. And with Invisalign, you can achieve these fantastic results, even more discreetly and quickly than ever before!

How Do I Need To Take Care Of My Aligners?

There are a few things to remember when taking care of your aligners:

    • Brush your teeth after every meal before putting your aligners back in.
    • You can brush your aligners or rinse them in lukewarm water – but never put them in hot water
    • Before putting your aligners in, you need to make sure that both your teeth and the aligners themselves are as clean as possible
    • Your aligners can become stained
    • If you lose or break an aligner, let us know – we can order a replacement for you

It’s very important to remember to brush your teeth after every meal before putting your aligner back in. This is because your aligners can actually stained and ruined if placed into a dirty mouth with a lot of food residue still present. It’s also important to ensure that your aligners are clean before putting them back in – if you drop them or spill something on them, rinse them in lukewarm water or brush them to make sure they are clean.

However, remember to never wash your aligners in hot water. This is because the hot water can actually warp the plastic on the aligners, ruining them completely. If this does happen, or you damage or lose your aligner at all, try to get in touch with us here at Parkfield as soon as possible. We can help find a solution, whether that be using an old aligner or ordering a new one as quickly as we can. Invisalign aligners are considered a prescription item, so make sure that you come to us to order a replacement.

    Maintain Your Beautiful new Smile

Retainers are the secret to maintaining your smile after completing your Invisalign journey with us at Parkfield Dental.

These custom-crafted removable retainers look and feel similar to your Invisalign aligners and play a crucial role by preventing gradual shifting of your teeth back to their original position. We recommend wearing your retainers full-time initially, then transitioning just to nights.

Lost or broken your retainers? We've partnered with Retainers4Life to make reordering your retainers at Parkfield Dental as convenient as possible.
