Dental tips, news and insights
Are you missing teeth and looking for a way to restore your smile with lasting results? If you do not like the idea of removable dentures or bridges, then dental implants may be a great option for you. Dental implants can create a reliable, sustainable solution to patients who are missing one or several teeth.
Dental implants are small, titanium posts that are surgically inserted into the jawbone. Because they are made of titanium, a material that is highly compatible with the human body, dental implants have the ability to fuse with the jawbone and help regenerate bone tissue.
The dental implant process can take anywhere from 2-6months. Once the dental implant is attached to the jawbone, your dentist will wait for a few weeks until it has fused to the bone tissue. Once this process is completed, your dentist will attach a prosthetic tooth- this can be a crown, bridge or denture. In order to have a dental implant placed, you will need enough bone mass to support them.
At Parkfield Dental Practice we also offer same day dental implants, this involves removing all your teeth (if necessary), placing 4-6 implants per arch and then securing a fixed temporary bridge onto the implants. The temporary bridge is then replaced in 4-6 months, allowing the bone and gums to heal, with a permanent bridge. If a permanent bridge is placed before healing has been allowed, this will cause large gaps to appear underneath the bridge due to the gum shrinking during the healing process.
Dental Implants behave much like natural teeth and require all the same cleaning processes. With regular check-ups and an effective oral hygiene routine, your dental implants will last for many years to come, potentially a lifetime. Dental implants can make a real difference to your life by increasing your confidence in your smile and improving your ability to speak and eat properly again.
Dr Neehal Shah, Dr Ian Smith and Dr Arfeen Aslam place all our implants at Parkfield Dental Practice, and all have a wealth of experience. We also have Mr Raj Patel a Specialist Dental Surgeon in oral surgery, who assists with our more complex cases.
