After a root canal treatment, your tooth can become more fragile and prone to fractures. Root canal treatment is normally carried out under local anaesthetic and the sensation is just like what you experience when you get an ordinary dental filling. Any pain that is associated with root canal treatment usually results from the infection or injury that necessitated treatment in the first place.
The goal of root canal treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal. The infected nerve is removed, and the root is then cleaned and filled to prevent any further infection. Any abscesses, which may be present, can also be drained and treated at this time.
